Associate Degree in Kinesiology

The AS in Kinesiology program prepares students for baccalaureate degree work in Kinesiology/Exercise Science at most four-year institutions by preparing them in the basic knowledge of this field. This includes study in the areas of anatomy and physiology, energy systems and bioenergetics, biomechanics, planes of motion, muscular contractions, exercise selection and testing, program design, injury identification and rehabilitation protocols, and coach/athlete interactions. Knowledge in these areas plays a significant role in the professional preparation of the student.

Estimated Annual Cost: $8,280

Cost estimate based on enrollment in 45 annual quarter hours with current Tuition and Fees. Cost includes fees for textbooks and materials.

This course is an integration of anatomical structure with physiological function, systematically examining basic histology and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, and sensory systems. Laboratory work includes histology, dissection, and physiological experiments.

This course a continuation of the study of human systems, with emphasis on the endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. Laboratory work includes extensive histology, dissection, and physiological experiments appropriate to systems studies.

This course is an introduction to the field of kinesiology. Including the history, importance, and philosophy of physical activity. Areas of study will include motor behavior, sport and exercise psychology and sociology of physical activity, biomechanics, physiology, and careers and professions in kinesiology, exercise science, and physical activity.

Program Benefits


Students with this degree will be prepared to become personal trainers or fitness instructors; however, completion of a four-year degree in kinesiology or exercise science will prepare students for a career in human health and wellness. With further education, graduates could pursue careers such as athletic trainer, strength and conditioning coach, physical therapist, occupational therapist, sport psychologist, exercise physiologist, corporate wellness director, or college professor.
