The Homeland Security and Emergency Management program educates students on terrorism studies, homeland security law and policy, emergency management, intelligence and counter-intelligence, strategic planning and risk analysis through excellence and innovation in education and research. The demand for employees with knowledge and experience in security and emergency management fields is high and only increasing. Consequently, the employment prospects for students who graduate with a degree in homeland security are very positive. Graduates of our Homeland Security degree program will be prepared to continue their education at a four-year university and eventually work in a variety of settings and capacities such as private businesses, emergency management, safety management, intelligence analysis, private security, airports, law enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Secret Service, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Air Marshals, customs investigators, special agents, military service and border patrol.

The field of Homeland Security is varied, incorporating jobs ranging from disaster preparedness to terrorism. The Department of Homeland Security is one of the largest Federal agencies, employing over 183,000 workers – this does not include state and local support staff nor does it include homeland security jobs in the private sector. Those students receiving an associate degree in homeland security will be prepared for employment with state and local emergency management agencies, private security firms, law enforcement agencies, corrections, and the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA). Employment requiring a minimum of a bachelor’s degree would include: cyber security professional, intelligence analyst, air marshals, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
